The Pattern
A seed-stage SaaS company has founder-led marketing plus a freelancer or agency for each individual channel. Content, paid, email and outbound each have someone looking after them, but nobody owns how they fit together or decides what to stop doing.
What Teams Usually Try First
Typically adding another freelancer or channel whenever growth stalls, or switching to whichever tactic was recommended most recently.
Where It Stalls
There is no agreed customer profile tied to a channel choice, no single pipeline target, and reporting is by channel, not by contribution to revenue. Budget gets spread thin, nothing runs long enough to be judged, and it is hard to tell whether a new hire would fix anything.
Recommended Approach
- Pin down the ideal customer profile and one pipeline goal for the next two quarters, and write both on a single page the whole team can see
- Look at where the best existing customers actually came from, choose one or two channels with real fit evidence, and pause the rest instead of running everything at low intensity
- Put a measurement baseline in place so every lead is recorded in the CRM with its source, and pipeline can be tied back to channels
- Hold a weekly thirty-minute review on pipeline contribution by channel, and log the decisions made so priorities do not shift with each new idea
- Decide the leadership path deliberately: a fractional marketing lead to set strategy and a repeatable channel first, and a full-time hire later once there is something repeatable to scale
What It Aims to Achieve
Aims to give the plan one owner, fewer and better-measured channels, and a clearer basis for deciding what to hire next.
